There were some interesting developments on the recruiting trail for Nebraska football on Thursday, starting wth the release of a top four by four-star offensive tackle Kelvin Obot.
The 6-foot-5, 285-pound tackle out of Idaho is ranked No. 9 at his position. He’s in the top 200 overall and is down to a final four of Nebraska, Michigan, Oregon, and Utah.
Nebraska football is the favorite, according to the On3 recruiting prediction machine, which gives the Huskers a 41 percent chance of landing his commitment. Oregon and Michigan are heavily in the mix as well. It’s a crowded top three.
All four schools have official visits scheduled for Obot to visit. A decision will probably come soon after that.
In-state QB offered by Alabama
Nebraska football hasn’t offered four-star quarterback Jeff Thomalla in the 2026 class, and there are no signs that the Huskers have any interest. Dayton Raiola is their 2026 QB commitment. Trae Taylor is the guy in 2027.
However, it’s not hard to notice Thomalla getting offered by Alabama on Thursday. The Iowa State commitment is ranked 235th overall in the 2026 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s also the 16th-best QB and the top-ranked player in the state of Nebraska.
Honestly, fans should trust Matt Rhule and the evaluations of his staff. Nebraska is one of the best programs in the country at evaluating talent, but this will be one to watch in the coming years.

Baton Rouge regional kicks off Friday
After a record-breaking season in terms of home runs and runs scored, the Nebraska softball team will begin its quest for the Women’s College World Series on Friday against UConn.
Nebraska is the No. 2 seed in the regional. The Huskers will face the Huskies at 2 CST on ESPN+. Huskers.com will also have the radio broadcast for free.
Led by Jordy Bahl, the best two-way player in softball, Nebraska had 98 home runs, 420 runs scored, and 202 extra-base hits. Bahl, the Big Ten Pitcher and Player of the Year, has 37 extra-base hits (a school record).
With another home run, Bahl can become just the fourth player in NCAA softball history to have 20 home runs and 20 wins (as a pitcher) in the same season.
From Huskers.com, Bahl, Ava Kuszak, and Olivia DiNardo were named to the All-Mountain Region first team, Hannah Camenzind and Samantha Bland were on the second team, and Kacie Hoffmann was on the third team. The last time NU had three athletes on the All-Region first team was in 2016.
LSU is the 10th-seeded team. SE Louisiana is also in the region. It’s double-elimination, but the first two games are the most important.
Win those, and another team would need to beat Nebraska two times in a row to advance to the Super Regional. Bahl, a two-time national champion with Oklahoma, told the Journal Star this week that Nebraska has what it takes to win it all.
She would know.
Nebraska baseball rallies, clinches Big Ten tournament berth
Nebraska baseball erased an 8-0 deficit on the road against Purdue on Thursday to clinch a berth in the Big Ten tournament, according to Evan Bland.Â
The Huskers won the game 11-9. Dylan Carey was 2-of-4 with a home run and three RBI. Cayden Brumbaugh also had two hits and drove in two runs.
Drew Christo got the win in relief after starter Tucker Timmerman allowed eight runs on six hits in two innings of work.
Nebraska is 27-26 overall. They are 14-14 in the Big Ten, just one game out of sixth place with two games to go. Game two against Purdue is Friday at 3 PM CST on BTN+.
