Nebraska football was able to pick up a commitment from 2024 four-star linebacker Vincent Shavers. The former Miami commitment made his decision official on Wednesday.
Shavers committed to Miami on May 19, and decommitted on December 15. He visited Nebraska this past weekend, as the program looked to seal the deal.
This is a strong get for Nebraska, as it helps solidify their linebacker room. This also continues the Florida theme for Nebraska in the 2024 class. Nebraska football now has four Florida kids in the class, with shavers signing his letter of intent.
He played for Miami Central this past season. He tallied 56 tackles, eight sacks, and an interception. Shavers played both sides of the football.
What is Nebraska football getting with this commitment?
Nebraska football is getting an aggressive, athletic linebacker. This is exactly what they need with depth being an important piece for the future. Shavers can explode as soon as the football is snapped, and fires off the ball quickly. He also has the ability to play a little bit off the edge and get after the quarterback.
This commitment will help the Nebraska football defense in several ways. The Huskers prided themselves on positional versatility defensively last season. Shavers does a good job of picking up the blitz, and will be able to use his athleticism and speed to affect offensive backfields in several ways. He will fit this defense very well in that respect.
Shavers gives Nebraska football an instant impact playmaker defensively. He is not just a filler for a class. He is a legitimate linebacker, added position that is important to this style of defense.
Nebraska football is set to have a very special 2024 class. Shavers is certainly a big part of what the Huskers want to do defensively in terms of style. It will be fun to watch him in Lincoln.
