The Nebraska basketball team is a lock to make the NCAA tournament at this point, at least if you believe the latest bracketology projections from ESPN and elsewhere.

Latest bracketology projections for Nebraska basketball

Joe Lunardi of ESPN released his update on Monday morning and the Huskers are projected as a No. 9 seed. In his bracket, the Huskers would be headed to Brooklyn, where they would face Texas Tech. Nebraska basketball is paired with UConn as the No. 1 seed.

The matchup and seeding are less important than the fact that the Huskers are off the bubble. Even if they lose to Michigan and their first-round game in the Big Ten tournament, they are going dancing. Nebraska basketball has 21 wins overall and 11 in the Big Ten. They also have road wins over Kansas State and Indiana, as well as a neutral floor victory over Oregon State.

Nebraska has knocked off four teams projected in the field by Lunardi. The Huskers are 43rd in the NET rankings. They are also 34th according to Kenpom and a true dark horse to make the Sweet 16. Nebraska is projected to make all 104 brackets tracked by Bracket Matrix with an average seed of 9.37.

So wrap your mind around it, Nebraska basketball fans, this team is headed to the NCAA tournament for the first time in a decade.

Nebraska women’s basketball also projected as a No. 9 seed

The Nebraska women’s basketball team missed a chance to clinch a double bye in the Big Ten women’s tournament this week with a loss on Sunday against Illinois. Nebraska is the No. 5 seed for the Big Ten tournament and will play on Thursday against the winner of Purdue and Ohio State.

Regardless of how the Big Ten tournament goes, the Huskers are projected as a No. 9 seed by ESPN, so they should hear their names called on Selection Sunday too.
