The Nebraska basketball teams will each start their seasons on Monday, with the women’s basketball team tipping off at noon CST against Omaha (BTN+).
It will be the much-awaited debut of freshman Britt Prince. The 23rd-ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team is led by preseason All-Big Ten selection Alexis Markowski. Big Ten Freshman of the Year Natalie Potts is another key player for Nebraska basketball, along with Allison Weidner and Logan Nissly, who came on strong last season.
Amy Williams’ club seems poised for another strong season after winning an NCAA tournament game in March of 2024 and with Price expected to be the next Nebraska superstar, it feels like the sky is the limit.
Fred Hoiberg, who like Williams received a contract extension at the end of last year, leads his Nebraska basketball team into action tonight (7 PM CST BTN+) against Texas Rio Grande Valley.
The Nebraska basketball men’s basketball team is ranked 57th in the Kenpom rankings to start the season, while Texas Rio Grande Valley is ranked 307th. I’m fascinated by the lineup combinations of the Huskers but it seems like it will be Rollie Worster, Brice Williams, Juwan Gary, Connor Essegian, and the big man Braxton Meah in the starting five.
That’s an impressive lineup. You’ve got some nice pieces coming off the bench too. Berke Büyüktuncel should have a key role off the bench as a 4-5. Andrew Morgan will be another key player in the front court if he’s able to play tonight. Keep an eye on the 3-point shooting of Gavin Griffiths too. Sam Hoiberg is still a defensive stalwart, plus Aaron Ulis should be a reliable depth option.
We shouldn’t learn too much tonight about Nebraska basketball, but it will be fun to see the team take the floor in a real game for the first time.
Nebraska volleyball notches another sweep
The Nebraska volleyball followed up their dominant performance against Wisconsin on Friday night with another 3-0 road sweep over Northwestern on Sunday by the scores of 25-18, 25-15, and 25-15.
Merritt Beason had a super-efficient day for the Huskers with nine kills while hitting .643. Andi Jackson had eight kills (.545), while Rebekah Allick managed four kills as Nebraska volleyball hit .287.
The real story for the second match in a row was the defense. Nebraska volleyball limited Northwestern to .082. Harper Murray had three aces and four kills in the win. Bergen Reilly pitched in with 25 assists and nine digs, plus four kills, while Lexi Rodriguez had seven digs, which moved her into second all-time in Nebraska volleyball history.
The No. 2 Huskers are now 22-1 on the season and 12-0 in the Big Ten.
