2024 bracketology updates for Nebraska basketball, plus the Huskers women get another big win.

It’s been a dream start to the 2023-24 Nebraska basketball season. The Huskers are off to their best start in 2011-12. They have beaten Indiana for the first time since 2019 and Michigan State for the first time since 2016.

Nebraska basketball is 12-2 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten. The Huskers just defeated Indiana on Wednesday night. They also face a difficult road trip on Saturday to Wisconsin.

But this team is the best of the Fred Hoiberg era and even before the win over the Hoosiers, Nebraska basketball was projected to make the NCAA tournament field by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi. However, bracketology goes beyond just ESPN anymore.

There are 41 bracketologists out there tracked by Bracket Matrix and right now, the Huskers are projected to make the field in 31 of 41 brackets. Of course, there is a long way to go.

I feel like if the Huskers hit 20 wins, they’ll be a lock for the NCAA tournament. That was the standard under Danny Nee and if Nebraska can hit 20, they have to be dancing come March.

So far so good.

Nebraska women’s basketball improves to 3-0 in Big Ten

Don’t look now, but the Nebraska women’s basketball team is one of three teams tied atop the Big Ten standings with a 3-0 record. The Huskers improved that mark on Thursday night with a 69-57 road win over Wisconsin. Iowa is also 3-0, as is Indiana following a blowout win over Michigan.

Nebraska built a 12-point first-half lead over the Badgers before a 20-11 third quarter in favor of Wisconsin tightened things up. The Huskers were able to pull away late though. Natalie Potts delivered 16 points, including a key 3-point play in the fourth quarter.

Potts was 7-of-10 from the field. Alexis Markowski added 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Jaz Shelley added five points. Darian White also pitched in with six points and four rebounds.

Nebraska women’s baskeball is also projected to make the NCAA tournament field by ESPN. However, the early returns have the Huskers contending in the Big Ten and we’ll find out Sunday against Indiana, just how serious we should take this team.
