Nebraska football is trending to flip a couple of 2025 recruits, but there is even more buzz than that, plus more Cornhuskers news.

Whether it’s making big changes to the coaching staff or making waves on the recruiting trail, it’s been a busy week for Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule.

Rhule announced earlier this week that Dana Holgorsen would take over as the Cornhuskers offensive coordinator for the rest of the season. Some in the fanbase love it, while some have concerns.

You have to like Rhule taking action, though. This week, Nebraka football is also taking action on the recruiting trail. After months of flirting with Dawson Merritt, it seems the Huskers have finally made a move with the Alabama commitment.

Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons of On3.com projected him to flip his commitment to Nebraka football on Tuesday, followed by a bunch of crystal ball flips. Now, it seems like just a matter of time before Merritt, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound EDGE/LB ranked 116th overall will be a Nebraska Cornhuskers commitment.

That’s huge news by itself. But the Huskers have also been projected to flip four-star tight end Chase Loftin, the second-ranked recruit in the state of Nebraska for the 2025 class. Loftin visited for the UCLA game. He’s now expected to visit Texas A&M and Missouri, but the Huskers still feel like the favorite to flip him.

And that’s not all. Wiltfong reported again on Tuesday night that Nebraska football is still making a push for Oklahoma commitment Cortez Mills. Bryson Hayes recently flipped his commitment from the Huskers to Kansas, but it felt more like he was processed than anything and the pursuit of Mills could be why.

Nebraska is still fighting for five-star wideout Michael Terry. Texas is the other contender and frankly, the strong favorite, but if Nebraska football could add Loftin and Mills or Terry, that would be a home run to close out the 2025 class.

The Huskers have seven blue-chip commitments out of 19 right now, but with Merrit, Loftin, and others on the radar, Nebraska football could have 10 blue-chippers by the time early signing day rolls around.

Nebraska women’s basketball improves to 3-0

The No. 21 Nebraska women’s basketball team notched another win on Tuesday night, cruising past the Southern Jaguars by the score of 84-58.

Alexis Markowski was stellar in the win for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, scoring 22 points in 22 minutes. She was 8-of-13 from the field, connected on two 3-pointers, and also grabbed six rebounds. Natalie Potts continues to ascend in her second season and poured in 17 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Britt Price added six points, three boards, and four assists, while Alberte Rimdal scored 13 off the bench.

The Huskers will be back in action on Saturday at 4 PM EST on the Big Ten Network against South Dakota.

Odds and prediction for Nebraska baskeball vs. Fairleigh Dickinson

The Nebraska men’s basketball team is also 2-0 but the Huskers have struggled in each of their first two games, failing to cover the spread in each. They beat Bethune-Cookman by single digits.

Turnovers and poor 3-point shooting have been two of the main issues facing the Cornhuskers. Offensive rebounding has also been an issue, which is concerning after playing two teams ranked outside the top 300 according to Kenpom.

The Huskers started the season ranked 57th via Kenpom but have already dropped down to 72. They are a 26.5-point favorite tonight and Fairleigh Dickinson is ranked 352 (Kenpom).

They are one of the worst teams in college basketball and if Nebraska doesn’t win by 30 or at least cover the spread, it might be time to worry about Fred Hoiberg’s crew.

Prediction: Nebraska 88, Fairleigh Dickinson 61
