Nebraska football held another scrimmage on Saturday — the second scrimmage of the fall — and afterward, Matt Rhule still wasn’t ready to name a starting quarterback.

Rhule said that he wanted to “watch the tape” and evaluate what the players did on Saturday. Yet, the Nebraska football head coach was asked if the starter has become evident, as he said he wanted him to earlier this offseason.

“I don’t know,” Rhule said. “Honestly, I don’t know. I think we feel confident in all the guys. It’s a really good question. I think the thing that we have is three guys that we feel like can lead us to wins. From that part, it’s hard.

“Should someone be more advanced right now than someone else? Yes. The difficult part in it is you have one guy who’s played, and you’ve seen him play — and you know how hard it is to play.”

Could someone other than Dylan Raiola be the Nebraska football starting quarterback?

By three quarterbacks, I assume that Rhule means Raiola, Heinrich Haarberg, and Jalyn Gramdstad. It could be Daniel Kaelin, who has had some impressive moments too, but it’s hard to know for certain.

It sounds like the decision is between Raiola and Haarberg. Frankly, to me, that’s not much of a decision at all. Haarberg is a tough player. You want him in your foxhole, but he shouldn’t be the starting quarterback as long as Dylan Raiola is healthy enough to play.

I believe Rhule knows that and will name Raiola the starter this week. Maybe he’s just trying to keep a lid on the hype or maybe he wants Raiola to stay sharp, but I’d but stunned if Dylan Raiola wasn’t named Nebraska football starting quarterback this week.
