It’s been a tough three weeks for Nebraska football. It started with the blowout loss to Indiana. The Huskers earned back some good faith with a close loss to Ohio State but the Rhule era hit a new low against UCLA last week.
You expected a celebration inside Lincoln Memorial Stadium. Instead, Nebraska football fans left in a somber mood once again after another performance that simply didn’t meet the standard.
Rhule met with the media on Monday and offered some interesting responses. The Nebraska football head coach said he would have some “outside eyes” come in and evaluate what the Huskers are doing on offense.
That’s a little disturbing to me, especially because Rhule has had to do the same thing with special teams. The Huskers have spent millions on this staff, so it’s weird they don’t have the guys they need, which, is on the head coach.
Rhule said he would evaluate everything this week but also said that Nebraska football players needed to have more accountability.
“It’s really important that our players take accountability as well,” Rhule said. “We don’t call any plays that they can’t execute. When they jump up and make the catch, it’s, ‘Great job, Isaiah (Neyor).’ when they jump up to make the catch, and they don’t make the catch, it’s, ‘Come on, Satt (Marcus Satterfield).’ So, I just want all of us in the program to take accountability together. That’s the introspection I talked about this week. We’re looking at everything.”
Take that for what you will but it doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. In other news, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are expected to have QB Dylan Raiola back in the lineup for the USC game after suffering an injury against UCLA that caused him to miss some time in the fourth quarter.
Nebraska basketball team finds a way
It wasn’t pretty but the Nebraska basketball (men’s) team earned a 20-point win over Texas Rio Grande Valley on Monday night. Brice Williams scored 27 points. Rollie Worster had 18 in his debut for the Cornhuskers but there were some defensive issues too such as still allowing too many 3-pointers, which was an issue last season.
Connor Essegian had a big day off the bench though, knocking down three triples and scoring 13 points. Andrew Morgan also added 10 off the bench in the win.
Britt Prince’s debut ends with a win
The five-star freshman was incredibly smooth in her debut. She made 4-for-6 shots with 10 points and five assists. She also didn’t have a single turnover which was impressive. Prince didn’t try to do too much but she fit in perfectly and is a smooth creator. She also had this highlight-reel hoop in the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ 88-48 win.
Alexis Markowski also set the school record for double-doubles with the 41st of her career thanks to 14 points (7-of-8 shooting) and 11 rebounds in 21 minutes of work. Natalie Potts pitched in with 14 and Allison Weidner had 11 points in her return after missing last season due to injury.
