It turns out that Nebraska football will have a live scrimmage on April 26th after all. It might not be called a spring game, but it’s a change nonetheless.

Rhule told reporters about the scrimmage on Thursday. He said he called Troy Dannen, the Nebraska athletic director, about it on Wednesday night.

The Nebraska football head coach also clarified that it will feature players on the backend of the roster. Rhule has been transparent about players who could make the 105-man roster, if there is a hard limit this season.

We don’t know the answer to that. It’s still unclear. Yet, Rhule said the Huskers will feature some of the players competing for those spots on Saturday. It won’t be starters or other players on the two-deep, who have done enough already, but Nebraska football will hold a live scrimmage.

It won’t be televised.

Nebraska football has the team Rhule wants

The head coach feels good about his team, and he said so: “This is the team I’ve been waiting for.”

You look across the board, and Nebraska has the depth, talent, and everything else needed to at least contend for a playoff spot. This is a top-25 caliber team.

Nebraska could have more depth on the offensive and defensive lines, but that’s just about everyone in college football. Maybe another running back could be added, but outside of that, Rhule has built a stellar roster.

There aren’t many position battles or question marks heading into the 2025 season. The floor is higher, and the ceiling could be even higher, too. The potential is there, and just like every Nebraska football fan, it feels like Rhule can’t wait for the season to start.
