Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule seems to have a plan for everything. He met with the media on Monday, and he discussed the posting of the “So God Made A Farmer” video that was put together last Wednesday. It’s very clear that he understands Nebraska culture in his response.

He put out the video on X just a few short hours after Trev Alberts’ departure. The response to the video was strong. Many praised the coach for being a source of strength during what was a jarring time for Nebraska athletics fans overall.

The video was a montage of highlights from Nebraska football greats, set to Paul Harvey’s famed speech. The video was posted with the caption “8-31-24.”

The coach knew what he was doing when he posted that video, and he explained his thought process behind it on Monday as transcribed by The Athletic’s Mitch Sherman.

“This is who we are. This is place we’re supposed to be. I might have been born in New York City, don’t get me wrong, but this is the ethos. This is the type of football we’re going to play. “It’s basically to say that I came here for a purpose. I didn’t just come here for people. I’ve met amazing people. But I’m here for that reason. And I’m looking for players that are here for that reason – that want to build something, that want to leave something.”

Rhule understands the role he plays in Nebraska athletics. It’s very clear that he understands the community that supports his football program as well. The coach is the steadfast leader that Nebraska athletics needs, as they go through a difficult time of transition. It’s also very clear that he is focused, and has a long-term vision for his time at Nebraska.

Rhule just gets it. That’s been said about him before, but it’s the truth. He realizes what being the head coach for Nebraska football means. He is not just here to collect the check, he is here to play a role in the community, as well as produce a winning product on the field. The blue-collar approach that Nebraska fans take, Rhule takes as well.

Rhule is the type of leader Nebraska football needs moving forward. He cares a lot more about the program then even some of Nebraska’s own.
