There has been a segment of Nebraska football fans who weren’t happy with Dylan Raiola.

They got particularly loud after the third interception that allowed Maryland to take a 31-24 lead. It was a tough moment. It also wasn’t really Raiola’s fault.

Freshman Cortez Mills ran the wrong route. Raiola didn’t panic. He led Nebraska to the doorstep of the end zone. The Huskers kicked a field goal. The Blackshirts got a stop, and Dylan Raiola drove Nebraska about 80 yards for a touchdown, as well as a massive 34-31 win.

It was a signature moment for Raiola. Yes, he threw three interceptions. He also threw four touchdowns, and after the last interception, he was damn-near perfect. He completed 20 of 29 passes for 260 yards. He’s got 17 touchdown passes in six games compared to five interceptions.

On the final drive, Raiola was dodging defenders and throwing darts. It was everything you want to see from a five-star quarterback. Hopefully, the Nebraska football fans who have been hesitant to accept that Raiola is elite will start to believe.

I hope they see what I see. Dylan Raiola is the quarterback to get this team to the College Football Playoff. It might not happen this season. We’ll learn more about this team on Friday. But Raiola is that dude. Stop doubting him.

Here are other gut reactions from Nebraska’s epic win over Maryland.

Gut reactions from Nebraska football win over Maryland

  • Emmett Johnson is the best Nebraska running back since Ameer Abdullah. He’s a stud, and he’d better get All-Big Ten honors.
  • Dylan Raiola wasn’t perfect, but he was when he needed to be.
  • Matt Rhule has fixed Nebraska football. The Huskers have learned how to win.
  • The special teams continue to be elite.
  • Malik Washington is damn good.
  • The pass defense is maybe a little overrated.
  • Nebraska’s offensive line had a good day. Nebraska rushed for 193 yards against a team allowing just 2.6 per carry. Raiola was sacked just once.
  • Turnovers killed Nebraska.
  • Special teams killed Maryland.
  • This Nebraska football team is different.
  • Rank them!
  • Go Big Red!!!!
