Spring practice starts on Monday for the Nebraska football program and even though there isn’t a spring game, the Huskers will be on the practice field four times this week.
Matt Rhule is set to meet with the media during the week, so we should have some updates. We outlined some storylines and position battles for Nebraska football spring ball, in case you missed it.
That’s not the only Nebraska football storyline as the NFL draft is approaching. The NFL’s annual selection meeting is still a month away, but Ty Robinson is making a move up draft boards.
Robinson killed it at the NFL combine, running one of the faster times by a defensive tackle in the past 20 years. That has bumped up his draft stock, along with a stellar senior season, to the point that Robinson is now part of ESPN’s top 50 for the 2025 NFL draft.
Defensive linemen are hard to come by, especially 300-pound dudes who can rush the passer like Robinson can, while being elite against the run. I don’t think he will end the first-round drought for Nebraska football, but he could get closer than many of us expected.
Huskers notch a sweep in softball
Nebraska softball dropped its first Big Ten series against Ohio State, but the Huskers responded with a three-game sweep over Minnesota in their first home series of the season.
Nebraska softball (23-8, 4-1) wrapped up the sweep with an 8-2 win over the Gophers Sunday. Kylee Magree got the win in the circle after allowing zero hits in three scoreless innings. Emmerson Cope got a no-decision after allowing one run in two innings of work.
Ava Bredwell led the way at the dish, going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Samantha Bland also added a hit and two RBI in the win.
Nebraska baseball loses another series
After a come-from-behind win on Saturday, there was hope that Nebraska baseball could win a series in LA against the Trojans, yet USC had other ideas, beating the Huskers 7-1.
Jackson Brockett fell to 0-2 on the season as a starter after allowing four runs on six hits in 3.2 innings. Case Sanderson and Dylan Carey had two hits apiece. Gabe Swansen added a double but Nebraska baseball dropped its third straight series to open the season.
Nebraska dropped two of three to Washington and USC, as well as being swept by UCLA. The Huskers are now 10-13 overall and 2-7 in the Big Ten.
