In addition to the Nebraska football team playing Akron on Saturday night, it will serve as a key recruiting weekend for the Huskers, who are building the foundation to an elite 2027 class.

There are expected to be some 2026 visitors on campus who are committed to other programs, but that’s not this weekend. This weekend is about the 2027 class.

Five-star commitment Tory Pittman will be back on campus, along with four-star quarterback Trae Taylor. However, there are some other elite prospects scheduled to take in the game against Akron. One that should have Nebraska football fans excited is Albert Simien, a 6-foot-3, 265-pound offensive lineman who is ranked 34th overall in the 2027 class according to the On3 Industry rankings.

Simien is from Lake Charles, Louisiana. This is also his third visit, a great sign for Nebraska football, which is off to a great start in 2027 with the commitments of Pittman and Taylor. KJ Green, a four-star EDGE (6-5, 215), also ranked in the top 100 overall out of Georgia, will visit for the game. Matt Erickson, the in-state three-star prospect from Omaha, will take the first of six gameday visits planned for this fall.

If anyone was poised to be Nebraska’s next commitment in 2027, it’s him.

Another name to have on the radar is four-star wideout Matthew Gregory (5-11, 170). He’s ranked 29th overall in the 2027 via On3, out of Pennsylvania. Penn State is the early favorite, but he’ll visit this weekend, along with four-star Jacob Thomas, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound wideout out of Florida.

Dayton Raiola, another Nebraska commit, tossed a 60-yard touchdown last night, while Trae Taylor was stellar again, barely missing a pass in a blowout win. The top-100 QB completed 19 of 22 passes for 301 yards and four touchdowns. Taylor ran for 73 yards and two touchdowns, too.

Gameday visits are always some of the best-selling points for Nebraska, which is what makes this weekend so encouraging from a recruiting perspective.
