Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.
It was a busy weekend for the Nebraska football program on the recruiting front as five 2027 recruits announced commitments over a period of three days.
The Huskers are projected to land more 2027 recruits, some as early as this week (4-star corner Jailen Hill). Others don’t have a decision date but could announce anytime (4-star WR Matthew Gregory, 4-star DL Nemehiah Ombati).
If those recruits commit as projected, Nebraska would have 10 blue-chip commitments via the 247 Sports composite rankings, in addition to a class that ranks 18th and is trending up.
As exciting as the commitments were, Nebraska football also gained ground with five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson, who said he is “close” to flipping from LSU to the Huskers after a surprise official visit.
Nebraska 2027 WR commit flips to Georgia Tech
Kaden Howard has been a target of UCF, Georgia Tech, and Miami since his commitment to the Huskers back in March. He was scheduled to be back in Lincoln for an official visit, along with a trip to UCF.
However, Georgia Tech has been rising in this recruitment. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound slot runs the 100-meter dash in sub 10.6. He can play. His speed would have been fun in this offense, but it seemed like he always had one foot out the door.
Gregory, a top-100 prospect, is expected to join the fold soon. There are some other wide receiver targets left on the board, although it doesn’t feel like a huge need from the outside looking in.
Key Nebraska softball player is back
Alexis Jensen, a cornerstone piece for Nebraska softball, announced she will be back on social media. The Big Ten Freshman of the Year earned Third-Team All-American honors.
Jensen was 25-2 this season with a 2.32 ERA and 232 strikeouts. She will take over as the ace for Jordy Frahm, who is sticking around as an assistant coach.
The Huskers have to reload, but getting Jensen back is a good place to start.
Nebraska baseball adds transfers
1B/OF Caleb Hoover announced his commitment to the Nebraska baseball team out of the transfer portal. After hitting .340 with 16 home runs as a JUCO in 2025, earning all-region honors, he played in just eight games last season for South Carolina.
Will Bolt’s team also added Cole Moore, a former Iowa pitcher who had a 4.68 ERA in 25 innings last season. That feels like a move to help shore up the bullpen, which struggled in the postseason.
Max Buettenback announced his departure.
