Matt Rhule is launching a podcast when he should go radio silent

The Nebraska football head coach is launching a weekly podcast. Yet, the program would be better served if he took the route of radio silence.

On Thursday, the Nebraska football season will be officially one week away. One way that Husker fans can celebrate is by listening to the first-ever House Rhules podcast, a new podcast launched by head coach Matt Rhule.

It was announced Tuesday night on social media with a simple post on X from the account @houserhules, writing: “All eyes on Coach Rhule’s office tomorrow at 10 a.m. CST.”

If you click on the YouTube link, the House Rhules podcast is described as the following: “Weekly podcast featuring Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule and Co-Host Anthony “the Cuz” Gargano talking all things sports, football, leadership, and life. From inside access to Nebraska football and the culture Coach Rhule is building in Lincoln, to bigger conversations about teamwork, leadership, authentic stories, and the lessons sports teach us.”

Rhule has been doing walking interviews with videos posted on Facebook and X on Nebraska accounts. Those have been popular, and this could be an extension of that.

However, I have to be honest, I wish that Rhule wasn’t doing this.

I’m not saying a head coach can’t have other interests, but my first thought is: could the time spent on this podcast be spent preparing for Cincinnati or Michigan, or something else?

Rhule will be great in this format. I have no doubt this will be highly enjoyable content for fans. Inside access is always exciting, and Rhule isn’t afraid to share things. Yet, I struggle to see how this helps Nebraska football win games.

That should be the only objective. Frankly, I wish Rhule would stop doing TV interviews and podcasts. Do the one media press conference a week, keep it short, and move on. Focus every ounce of energy on winning.

Anything else is a waste of time. Just like this podcast.
