Nebraska football had six players named to the Senior Bowl watch list on Wednesday ahead of the 2023 season.
It’s been fun to see some Nebraska football players standing out in the NFL preseason. Trey Palmer has caught two touchdown passes already and so has former Huskers tight end Travis Vokolek.
Hopefully, the NFL talent produced by Nebraska football will only increase in the coming years with Matt Rhule as the head coach. But even the current roster has quite a bit of pro potential.
Just looking at the seniors, there were six that were invited to the Senior Bowl. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything — these guys could disappoint — but right now, it shows they all have a shot of being drafted.
Nebraska players on Senior Bowl watch list
On the offensive line, Bryce Benhart was one of the selections for the Senior Bowl watch list, as was new starting center Ben Scott, who transferred from Arizona State. Both have critical roles to play this season, but Rhule has said he believes Benhart will be an NFL tackle.
The other offensive player was running back Anthony Grant. He’s the second-team back right now behind Gabe Ervin but that’s due to ball security. He rushed for nearly 1,000 yards last season and could still have a big impact this season as long as he improves his ball security.
Defensively, Ty Robinson made the list. It would be nice to see him have a breakout season and truly dominate, but he’s had a solid career and has elite size. Luke Reimer and Quinton Newsome were the other Nebraska football players on the Senior Bowl watch list.
All six of those guys should have a shot of getting drafted. Thomas Fidone and Jeff Sims could too, along with Gabe Ervin and maybe even Billy Kemp. Nash Hutcmacher is another guy I expect to develop into an NFL-caliber dude, at least a guy who will get signed as a rookie free agent.
It also shows that Nebraska has enough talent to at least make a bowl game this season. That remains my expectation.
