Nebraska football has landed another blue-chip commitment in the 2025 class and the Huskers beat out another big-name program to get it.

Kade Pietrzak, a four-star EDGE from North Dakota, who is ranked No. 321 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, committed to the Huskers on Sunday over Oklahoma and others.

The Sooners felt like the favorite until about a week ago. Nebraska started making a stronger push and after missing on some EDGE prospects in 2024, this was a big commitment.

It’s the 17th commitment for Nebraska. Five of those commitments are blue-chip prospects and here are three thoughts on what landing Pietrzak means for the Huskers.

Another impressive recruiting win

One thing I love about Matt Rhule and his coaching staff is that they never seem to be out of a recruitment. Pietrzak visited Oklahoma, Kansas State, and Wisconsin, as well as Nebraska football in June. Miami, Washington, Florida, Missouri, UCLA, Texas A&M, and Florida State all offered since January of 2024.

There have been some impressive recruiting wins under Rhule. Many of them have come with the assistance of defensive line coach Terrance Knighton, but this is the kind of recruiting battle Nebraska should win and it’s good to see the Huskers seal the deal.

A great fit for the 3-3-5 scheme

According to his Hudl film, Pietrzak is 6-foot-5, 250 pounds. He plays offensive line and defensive line for his high school team and on defense, you see him getting snaps as a five-technique as well as a traditional defensive end.

You look at Jimari Butler and that’s who Pietrzak reminds me of, at least in terms of position. He can be an EDGE. Pietrzak can be a hands-down defensive end, while he can also be a five-technique.

Pietrzak is explosive. He’s also a stellar pass rusher both on the outside and on the interior. That’s valuable and he’s a guy who can play some defensive tackle in pass-rushing situations.

The pass rush was a big need for Nebraska football in the 2025 class and this meets that need.

The perfect attitude for Nebraska football

Husker fans are going to love Pietrzak. Some of the first plays on his highlight reel are on the offensive line and he’s a dude that blocks to the ground.

After watching Pietrzak pancake a few dudes, I thought this is a guy I’d like on the defensive line. The lengthy EDGE knows how to use his hands which is an essential talent for an odd-front defender.

Pietrzak plays a different position but he’s got the nastiness of a Nash Hutmacher. Nebraska football fans will love him and they should also love the defensive line haul which includes Pietrzak, Malcolm Simpson, a four-star defensive tackle, and Tyson Terry (3-star DT).

It’s not a huge class but those are three really good gets and Terrance Knighton needs to take a bow.
