Even though fall camp has arrived for Nebraska football and others, and recruiting feels more on the back burner, it’s still an important time as some decisions are looming for Nebraska targets.

There are five recruits to know in the 2025 recruiting class right now Nebraska football. We have heard a bunch about five-star offensive tackle David Sanders, along with five-star wideout Michael Terry.

Both recruits visited Nebraska football at the end of July. Sanders is announcing a commitment on August 17th. Terry has just said he will decide “soon.”

Isaiah Mozee, a four-star wideout committed to Oregon, has been trending with expert projections to flip to Nebraska football. Beyond those three, the Huskers have been recruiting two linebackers pretty hard in the 2025 class — Christian Jones and Will Hawthorne.

Iowa State is the favorite for 2025 LB

Out of Gilbert, Iowa the 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker is essentially down to Nebraska and Iowa State. However, there has been a slew of expert projections for the Cyclones even from Husker Online guys Sean Callahan and Bryan Munson in recent days.

That usually means the writing is on the wall. Hawthorne is ranked No. 922 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Kansas State and Kansas are the other power-4 offers, along with Iowa State. Iowa didn’t offer. Nebraska did but it feels like this is going in another direction.

There could be a connection to Christian Jones (No. 159 overall), another 2025 linebacker target on the board. Jones is 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, but they could each play inside for the Huskers like Nick Henrich and Luke Reimer.

Yet, that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen now. Hawthorne is a solid player but Iowa State has pulled ahead for the Iowa prospect. That means it’s time for Nebraska football to do the same with Christian Jones, who remains the top-ranked recruit from Nebraska in the 2025 class.

The Huskers are the crystal ball leader but Jones has talked about other visits, which would be a concern,  but now that Hawthorne is likey off the board to Iowa State, landing Jones is essential.

Then again, it always has been.
