The Nebraska softball season starts on Friday, as hard as it might be to believe.

It feels like we just got finished watching Jordy (Bahl) Frahm battling it out against Tennessee for a shot at the Women’s College World Series.

The Huskers fell one win short of that, but the 2026 season breeds new excitement, as Rhonda Revelle’s squad returns the best player in college softball, plus returns 86 percent of the offensive production it had last season.

Nebraska should have a deep pitching staff, too. The Huskers even added some key pieces from the transfer portal, and will all that in mind, here are some things to watch as the season gets started on Friday with games against Washington (1:05 PM) and Texas (6:05 PM). Both games are on ESPN+. The Longhorns are ranked No. 1 in the Coaches Poll. Nebraska softball is 10th.

One last ride with Jordy

Frahm was the best player in the sport last season. She was the Big Ten Pitcher and Big Ten Player of the Year. You wonder if she could sweep those honors nationally this season.

In 2025, Frahm was off the charts. She posted 26 wins with a 1.56 ERA and struck out a career-high 286 batters in 206 innings, allowing just 46 earned runs. At the dish, she was just as effective with a .462 batting average to go along with 23 home runs and 66 RBI.

It’s hard to ask Frahm to repeat or even exceed that performance. However, Jordy is going to be Jordy. She’s a superstar for a season, and I wouldn’t put anything past her.

Either way, it’s her last season in college softball, so enjoy it.

A deep and talented roster

This team was about much more than Frahm last season. The Huskers set 18 school record on offense and return 18 letterwinners. Nebraska softball returns 97 percent of its innings pitched from last season, as well as 84 percent of its at-bats.

Senior shortstop Ava Kuszak is back after a dynamic season that saw her hit .412 with 21 home runs and 64 RBI. Lauren and Hannah Camenzind are back, too, while Olivia Dinardo, a senior catcher is also back.

The Huskers added from the portal, too, landing former Oklahoma outfielder Hannah Coor, as well as UNLV catcher Jesse Farrell. From the high school ranks, Alexis Jensen, is similar to Frahm in that she had a stellar high school career in Nebraska in the circle, and at the plate. She’ll be a name for Nebraska softball fans to watch this season.

Long story short, though, it feels like a championship-level roster.

Women’s College World Series or Bust

It’s been 13 years since the Nebraska softball team has reached the Women’s College World Series. They were agonizingly close last season. With (Bahl) Frahm, and what could be the best offense in program history, every goal is on the table: Big Ten title, national title, etc.

When you have a pitcher as dominant as Frahm, anything is possible. She knows what it takes, too, after winning a national championship with Oklahoma. The first step is hosting a regional.

That means being one of the top 16 seeded teams. The real goal, however, should be hosting a Super Regional, which means being a top-8 seed. Nebraska softball is starting the season at No. 10.

If they could host, or were the host last season, things might have worked out differently last season. Either way, it feels like a successful season for Nebraska softball is getting back to the Women’s College World Series.
