Nebraska football landed two commitments in one day on Monday. First, it was Florida cornerback Danny Odem who committed to the Big Red.

Soon after, three-star running back Jamal Rule filled a big need for the Huskers, committing to Nebraska over Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Michigan State, and others.

You could feel that some positive momentum was building for the Huskers with Rule right after his official visit. He’s ranked No. 779 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot, 205-pound running back rushed for over 1,200 yards last season and averaged 9.2 yards per attempt.

Here are some thoughts about his commitment.

Yes, Rule is another three-star commitment (7 of Nebraska’s 8 commits are), but this was an important get. The only other running back on the board was Brian Bonner, and Nebraska doesn’t seem near the top of his list.

If the Huskers missed on the Charlotte, North Carolina, running back, it would have been back to the drawing board. And even though people want to obsess over rankings, Emmett Johnson was a three-star recruit.

Rule said Nebraska compared him to Johnson. He’s a little bigger. Maybe not quite as fast, but it’s hard to tell based on just his highlights. The kid is explosive, though, and a home-run hitter, which isn’t hard to discern based on the 9.2 yards per attempt average.

Rule is a decisive runner that will pair well down the road with Jamarion Parker, a four-star addition from the 2025 class, and also Conor Booth.

Nebraska doesn’t seem interested in adding another back in this class. It has a stable of young backs behind Emmett Johnson. Rule can add to that group, but is a player with starter potential down the road.
