Nebraska football has started shifting its focus to the 2026 and 2027 recruiting classes and this weekend is proof of that as a bunch of visitors from those classes will be on campus for the Colorado game.
As far as the 2025 class is concerned, there are some still priority targets on the board such as Christian Jones, the top-ranked recruit in the state of Nebraska for 2025. He will visit for the second straight game.
5-star Michael Terry is also expected to visit along with top-100 wideout Cortez Mills and top-100 linebacker Dawson Merritt. Mills is committed and Oklahoma, while Merritt is committed to Alabama.
However, some other visitors to know are at the quarterback position in the 2026 class. Nebraska football is behind the 8-ball with quarterbacks in the class. They are a finalist for four-star Michael Clayton. He’ll visit this weekend along with Dayton Raiola and DJ Bordeaux.
Bordeaux hasn’t been offered yet. The three-star signal-caller out of Colorado has been offered by Auburn, Ole Miss, Penn State, Arkansas, Boston College, and Colorado.
It feels like Clayton and Raiola are the top targets but it also seems like if Raiola emerges as at Buford, he will wind up being the main target for the 2026 class. But it’s nice to have options.
Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team upset by SMU
For the first time in six years, Nebraska volleyball lost a match to an unranked opponent as SMU made quick work of the Cornhuskers with a 3-0 sweep by the scores of 25-23, 25-21, and 25-18. The Huskers had a ton of hitting errors and hit under .200.
Merritt Beason and Harper Murray struggled mightily but the defense had issues too and serve-receive wound up being an issue just like the national title match. In the second set alone, SMU was credited with five aces, while the Cornhuskers had zero aces and six service errors.
It’s tough to win like that. Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook wasn’t pleased with the effort, saying afterward that Nebraska thinks it can just show up and win.
“SMU played a great match tonight,” Cook said. “Everything went their way, and we got punched in the mouth, and we let them keep punching us. So, I’m pretty disappointed in how we respond tonight. To be honest, I saw this coming. This is all starting Saturday night (against TCU). We talked about the frustration, and they didn’t fix it. We had great practice last night, but man, we did not compete tonight. It was pretty disappointing.”
