Nebraska football

Nebraska football could be without one of its best players for the game against Rutgers on Saturday according to a report from Sean Callahan of Husker Online.

Callahan said that “it would not surprise him” if Hill missed the game on Saturday, despite trying to go. Matt Rhule indicated he expected him to play this week, but his injury lingers. Hill is dealing with the plantar fascia, a painful injury that can be slowly healing.

If Hill isn’t 100 percent, it might be better to sit him and get him healthy. The bye week is next week and against Rutgers, the passing game isn’t what keeps me up at night. Nebraska football needs to stop the running game to win this one, although Hill is a factor there too as a bigger corner.

Ceyair Wright has filled in fine from a coverage perspective, so even if Hill can’t go, I feel like Nebraska football will be able to survive in his absence.

Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball sweeps Illinois

The Huskers played on the road for the first time in Big Ten play on Thursday night and passed the test with flying colors, sweeping Illinois by the scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-17.

Nebraska was strong on defense too, although Illinois had more success than some other recent teams — hitting .217 and notching 43 kills compared to 41 for the Huskers. Yet, Illinois struggled with service errors and Nebraska controlled the net with a 12-3 edge in blocks.

Merritt Beason had 10 kills and seven blocks. She also hit .421. Harper Murray added nine kills and 11 digs. Bergen Reilly contributed with 30 assists to go along with eight digs and three kills. Lexi Rodriguez was solid with a team-high 14 digs.

Nebraska volleyball (13-1, 3-0) will host Iowa at 2 p.m. CST on Sunday.

Fred Hoiberg, Nebraska basketball at Big Ten Media Days

The Nebraska basketball team was represented by Fred Hoiberg, Juwan Gary, and Brice Williams at Big Ten Media Days. Hoiberg sounded excited about his team, even though the Huskers were picked 12th in the unofficial media poll for the Big Ten basketball season in 2024-25.

Hoiberg said the Huskers had one of the most experienced teams in the Big Ten last season and he was excited to add more veterans like Andrew Morgan, Braxton Meah, Rollie Worster, and others. He also said that he’s still trying to figure out the rotation.

“My biggest job is going to be figuring out a rotation because we have a lot of guys who are capable of being out there,” Hoiberg said. “We have an unselfish, hard-playing group and we are excited to lace ‘em up here on Nov. 4.”

Beyond that, Hoiberg said “consistency” was a big focus for a team looking for its second consecutive NCAA tournament berth.

“Consistency is a big thing we talk about,” Hoiberg said. “That is a big word. Everyday these guys come in and I never have to worry about competitiveness and that’s a great thing. If you have a competitive group that steps on the floor every day and works, you are going to have a chance.”
