Nebraska football has been frequently mentioned in post-spring top-25 rankings, but CBS Sports took their projections a step further, looking ahead to the 2025-26 bowl season.
Many expect the Huskers to improve from last season after winning seven games, including the Pinstripe Bowl.
With Dylan Raiola entering his second season as a starter, an upgraded offensive line, dynamic wide receivers, and some added playmakers on defense, Matt Rhule said earlier this spring, “This is the team I’ve been waiting for.”
Rhule’s teams have historically taken a big jump in year three. Nebraska football is poised to do that this season. However, according to the CBS Sports bowl projections, the Huskers would still have to settle for a Las Vegas Bowl matchup against Arizona State.
That’s a tier below the Citrus Bowl or the ReliaQuest Bowl, which is probably where the Huskers would have played had they beaten Iowa last season. It’s not the CFB Playoff either.
Projections and preseason predictions don’t mean much. They are fun to ponder, though, especially ahead of the 2025 season, which is one of the most anticipated in recent memory, probably because it feels like the Huskers have a chance to be relevant again.
Nebraska softball selected for the NCAA tournament
The Huskers were knocked out of the Big Ten tournament on Friday by UCLA, but the Nebraska softball team still earned an at-large selection to the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 seed in the Baton Rouge region.
Led by Big Ten Player/Pitcher of the Year, Jordy Bahl, Nebraska softball will take on UConn on Friday. LSU is the 10th-seeded team in the tournament. SE Louisiana is the fourth-seeded team in the region.
It’s double-elimination, and only one team will advance to the Super Regional.
Nebraska baseball with another series win
After a solid win to open the series on Friday, Nebraska baseball beat Michigan in walk-off fashion on Saturday as Case Sanderson blasted a three-run home run to clinch a 5-2 win for the Huskers.
Nebraska has won six of its last seven weekend series. The two wins over Michigan moved Nebraska into a tie for ninth at 13-14 in the conference. The Huskers are 26-26 overall. They have a final three-game series against Purdue this weekend.
The Boilermakers are 10-17 in the Big Ten, so winning two of three seems possible, and as long as the Huskers do that, they should be playing in Omaha for the Big Ten tournament.
Right now, that’s still up in the air.
