Nebraska volleyball looks like national championship team so far

Nebraska volleyball made quick work of Stanford on Sunday and through two games, the Huskers look like a national title team.

In two matches against a pair of Final-Four caliber opponents, Nebraska volleyball won six of seven sets, which included a three-set sweep over sixth-ranked Stanford (25-13, 25-19, 25-14).

The Huskers didn’t just beat Stanford; they dominated the Cardinal. Nebraska volleyball hit an incredible .385. Allie Sczech, the Baylor transfer, got her first start and rewarded head coach Dani Busboom-Kelly with a match-high 12 kills (.400).

Rebekah Allick, who had a monster kill to force match point, hit .600 on her way to 11 kills, six blocks, and the MVP of the match award. Harper Murray also managed 10 kills and nine digs. She hit .308. Bergen Reilly had 36 assists, four kills, and three blocks. Laney Choboy and Olivia Mauch each had 12 digs.

Even more impressive than Nebraska’s offense was the defense. Nebraska volleyball held Pittsburgh to a .111 hitting percentage despite the Panthers having Olivia Babcock, the 2024 National Player of the Year.

On Sunday, Stanford had an even harder time killing the ball, hitting just .091. Nebraska had a 9-2 edge in blocks, as well as a 56-35 advantage in digs, and a 46-31 lead in kills.

It sounds like that should be the result against a cupcake opponent, but that was the No. 6 team in the country. The offense has been incredible, but the defense hasn’t skipped a beat without John Cook/Lexi Rodriguez.

Nebraska volleyball packed Pinnacle Bank Arena twice in three days and left zero doubt about its ability to win a national championship this season. Anything less would be a disappointment.
