It’s pretty rare for Nebraska volleyball to do something it has never done before, but that’s what the Huskers did on Wednesday night against No. 2 Stanford. It was the first home sweep of a top-2 team in program history.

Fifth-ranked Nebraska, which entered the match with one loss, swept the No. 2 team in college volleyball 25-17, 25-22, and 25-14. It was a masterclass by the Huskers who held Stanford, one of the best-hitting teams in the country, to just a .100 hitting percentage.

Nebraska volleyball dominates No. 2 Stanford across the board

Nebraska had 38 kills and hit .263. Andi Jackson (9), Lindsay Krause (9), and Merritt Beason (8) led the Huskers in kills. Jackson hit .600 with nine kills on just 15 swings. Jackson also pitched in with five blocks. Bergen Reilly added 27 assists, but this match felt more about defense, than offense.

The Huskers scored 59 points compared to 38 for Stanford. Nebraska volleyball outperformed Stanford in every single category. Nebraska had 38 kills compared to 33. The Huskers also had nine blocks compared to four, 38 digs, while Stanford had 35. The Cardinal also had 33 assists — three short of the 36 Nebraska had.

It’s one of those matches where you expected a dogfight and Nebraska volleyball just dominated. The SMU loss might have never happened. Looking back, it was probably a good thing. A wake-up all as it were.

There’s another big match on Sunday and beating No. 4 Louisville (on the road), won’t be easy. But if Nebraska volleyball is going to be a national championship team, those are the kinds of matches they should win and the Huskers (9-1) sure looked the part of a national champion against Stanford.
