Things are moving quickly in the transfer portal, which opened officially on Friday morning. Everyone knows that Nebraska football needs a quarterback, and a commitment could be coming soon.

The Huskers have been tied to a few transfer portal quarterbacks. However, the most notable have been Michigan State’s Aidan Chiles and Notre Dame’s Kenny Minchey.

Michey was a top-200 recruit back in the 2023 class, ranked No. 170 overall. He competed with CJ Carr for the starting job before the 2025 season, but was beaten out, despite the QB race being “neck and neck.”

Minchey completed 20 of 26 passes this season for 192 yards. He also ran seven times for 84 yards. There would be some projection, however, the former blue-chip recruit is ranked the No. 9 QB in the transfer portal by 247 Sports, as well as the No. 40 player overall.

And according to Tom Loy and Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Nebraska is expected to land Minchey to be its next starting quarterback. Each expert has placed a crystal ball in favor of the Huskers landing the 6-foot-2, 215-pound quarterback.

After TJ Lateef struggled in the Las Vegas Bowl, following poor performances against Penn State and Iowa to close out the season, it’s clear Nebraska football needs to upgrade at quarterback. Would Minchey be an upgrade over Dylan Raiola?

It’s hard to say. He’s a talented quarterback, who fits the dual-threat mold that Matt Rhule wants going forward. It doesn’t come without risks, but Minchey feels like he will be the next Nebraska football starting quarterback. He’s got two years of eligibility remaining.
