Nebraska football opens a three-game stretch against undefeated teams this week, starting with Rutgers. The Huskers will then get a bye week before traveling to Indiana and Ohio State.

Everyone expected the Buckeyes to be undefeated. But not many expected Rutgers to be 4-0 or Indiana to be 5-0 at this point. The Scarlet Knights have been trending up as a program. They have made consecutive bowl games and even had a winning record last season.

Kyle Monangai is one of the best all-around players in the Big Ten. Through four games, he’s got 589 rushing yards and six touchdowns. As a team, Rutgers has averaged 237 yards per game on the ground and 5.4 per attempt. With former Minnesota quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis leading the way with seven touchdowns compared to just one interception, Rutgers is scoring 35 points per game.

Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule was effusive in his praise for Greg Schiano and rightly so. The dude can coach. His players always play hard and this will be a 60-minute war. Here’s a look at the odds, how to watch, and our early prediction against the spread.

Nebraska football vs. Rutgers odds, over/under

According to DraftKings, Nebraska football is a seven-point favorite against the Scarlet Knights. The over/under is 41, while the moneyline is -245 for the Huskers and +200 for Rutgers.

Nebraska football vs. Rutgers prediction against the spread

This is an interesting matchup. Nebraska has the advantage at quarterback. Rutgers probably has the best running back in the Big Ten and a quarterback who’s averaging eight yards per attempt and can move.

Both teams have been exceptional at taking care of the ball. Nebraska hasn’t lost the turnover battle all season. Rutgers has just two giveaways in four games.

Rutgers is running it well, taking care of the ball, taking the ball away, and getting solid QB play. The defense is sound allowing 16 points per game but Will Rogers and Washington threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns. The Huskies had more than 500 yards of total offense and still lost 21-18.

A key turnover made a big difference. So did the Scarlet Knights’ red zone defense. Nebraska has struggled in the scoring areas this season and its first six drives last Saturday inside the 40 yielded zero points.

That being said, I think the Huskers are going to play their best game of the season. As ugly as it was at times against Purdue, grinding out that win will be a huge confidence builder. Rutgers won at Virginia Tech earlier this season but I don’t think the Scarlet Knights are good enough to win in Lincoln.

Nebraska wins another “close” game that ends up not being a one-score game after a late field goal make by the Huskers (bold prediciton) puts the win on ice.

Prediction: Nebraska 27, Rutgers 17
