It’s always good to beat a team 68-0. But it’s even better when there are a bunch of recruits on campus to witness it, which was the case for Nebraska football against Akron.
The Huskers played their first home game of the season, which meant they were able to host recruits for the first time, and some star-studded prospects were on campus.
KJ Green, a top-100 EDGE recruit, made his first visit to Lincoln. He told Tim Verghese of Rivals that “nothing” compares to Memorial Stadium. Trae Taylor, the blue-chip commitment at quarterback in 2027, along with five-star commitment Tory Pittman, were also on campus to take in the 68-0 beatdown Nebraska football handed Akron, including a 35-0 second half after this epic speech by Matt Rhule.
It’s been about a month since Pittman surprised the world of college football recruiting with his commitment to Nebraska, in what was a massive win for Rhule and company. More big recruiting wins seem like they are on the way, especially if the Huskers keep playing the way they did on Saturday.
In-state recruit trending to Nebraska football
This program is reaching another level. We still have to see the results on the field. 2-0 doesn’t mean anything yet, but Rhule’s vision for Nebraska football is coming true.
And recruits are starting to see it. In-state offensive tackle Matt Erickson is the latest. He might be the next Nebraska football commitment. I wrote that Erickson would be the next commitment before Pittman surprised and pledged to the Huskers.
Yet, after another visit, and more positive things to say about the program, Erickson, who is scheduled for five more gameday visits this fall, has been projected to Nebraska by Greg Smith of Rivals.
The 6-foot-8 offensive tackle is ranked No. 602 overall in the 2027 class, via the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s No. 4 in the state of Nebraska, and the Huskers have a 99.6 percent chance of landing his commitment following Smith’s prediction.
It feels like just a matter of time at this point.
