It’s going to be a busy day for fans of the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Friday, but before we get into that, there is some positive buzz regarding the Nebraska football team.
Spring ball starts next week. Even though there isn’t a spring game, there are still spring practices, as some Husker fans need reminding of, but that starts next week.
Players have already been taking part in offseason workouts. That can include some work on the field, although coaches have limited time they can spend with players on the field.
Spring ball changes that but according to Husker Online, some newcomers have already turned heads. Dasas McCullough is a name that continues to come up. It shouldn’t surprise anyone if he leads Nebraska football in sacks next season, but his name has been mentioned multiple times.
Dane Key is also turning heads and the returns are positive on Hardley Gilmore. Incoming freshman Cortez Mills is also making an impression, giving credence to the idea that he could play early.
The wide receiver room was overhauled, but the Huskers added some other impact players from the portal. Don’t forget about linebacker Marques Watson-Trent either, or cornerback Andrew Marshall, or the offensive line additions, which should both start.
The 2025 recruiting class and transfer portal haul are looking stellar for Nebraska football, and that’s another reason to feel about the Huskers in 2025.
Nebraska women’s basketball in the NCAA tournament
We broke down the matchup earlier this week, but Nebraska will take the floor in the NCAA women’s basketball tournament on Friday against Louisville.
The 10th-seeded Huskers will play at 5 PM CST against seventh-seeded Louisville. Nebraska will be broadcast on ESPN. Fans can catch the radio broadcast at Huskers.com.
Nebraska wrestling in second place, plus more
It was a great day for the Huskers on the first day of the NCAA wrestling tournament as five Nebraska wrestlers advanced to the quarterfinals. All nine are still alive in the brackets and Nebraska is in second after the first day of competition (28 points).
Top-seeded Brock Hardy (141), No. 2 Ridge Lovett (149), No. 3 Antrell Taylor (157), Christopher Minto (165), and Silas Allred (184) each made the quarterfinals. Allred pulled off a stellar comeback, trailing 14-2 in the third period before rallying for a pin. \
All nine Huskers are still alive. Day two of the NCAA tournament starts on Friday. Penn State leads the field with 39.5 points. The third session starts at 11 a.m. CST on ESPNU.
In other Husker news, both Nebraska softball and baseball will be back on the diamond Friday. The Huskers will host Minnesota in a three-game set to open Big Ten play at home after dropping two of three games against Ohio State last week.
Nebraska baseball won two mid-week games over Pepperdine this week, even using the old hidden-ball trick. The Huskers are 1-5 in the Big Ten though and play at USC for a critical three-game set. First pitch for softball is at 5 p.m., followed by an 8:30 start for baseball.
