Nebraska Athletics is in a bit of a quiet time frame right now. There are football recruiting weekends to be had, as the program continues to try and find impact players. There was also a little bit of basketball news over the course of the last 24 hours as jersey numbers were announced for the 2024-25 season.

Phil Steele also came out with his respected rankings for Nebraska’s positional units.  Although football season is still a month and change away, there’s no doubt that it’s getting closer.

With this in mind, we give you a roundup of what’s been happening in Nebraska Athletics over the past four hours. There is not a ton of notable news, but it’s still a busy time frame.

A big recruiting weekend for Nebraska football

Nebraska football will have a ton of visitors this weekend, as they get set for one of two back-to-back visit weekends. 12 visitors will come to Lincoln, beginning on Friday. This group is headlined by offensive lineman Sensu Alofatuli and linebacker Christian Jones.

There was also a visitor added to the list on Thursday. Four-star wideout Isaiah Mozee is coming to campus as well. Nebraska football has been active in his recruitment in past months. Now, it appears as though they are trying to seal the deal. The wide receiver board is dwindling a bit in terms of elite targets. Mozee is currently committed to Oregon, but Nebraska football could have a shot at landing him.

This is a big weekend for the program. They probably won’t receive many commitments this weekend, if any. Even still, it’s important for them to make headway with this group. Nebraska football had good recruiting momentum towards the end of June last year. Now, they are looking to continue that trend again.

Jersey numbers announced for Nebraska basketball

Nebraska basketball officially announced their jersey numbers for the 2024-25 season.

Connor Essegian will wear number zero. Berke Buyuktuncel will take number nine. Gavin Griffiths will have number 12, while Andrew Morgan will take number 23. Rollie Worster will have number 24, and Braxton Meah will take No. 34.

Nebraska basketball’s transfer class is a big one, and could shape the future of the program for years to come. When you add in a talented player like four-star forward Nick Janowski, the depth on this team appears to be solid. The pieces for success are there, now it’s just time for the program to get over the hump.

Phil Steele hands out Nebraska football positional rankings

Respected football analyst Phil Steele handed out his positional rankings for the Nebraska football program earlier this week. He had the quarterbacks as the 56th overall best unit in the country. The running backs placed 50th. The wide receivers placed 45th, while the offensive line placed 40th.

The defensive line was undoubtedly the most respected out of this group according to Steele. He ranked them as the fifth-best in the country. Linebackers were placed 19th overall. Corners were placed 30th overall.

Nebraska basketball improves in transfer portal rankings

Nebraska basketball has an incoming player rating of 90.33 in the latest On3 transfer portal rankings. The program has a 71.67 average for the players that left over this offseason. This moves them up to fourth overall in the latest transfer portal ranking, per Robin Washut,

With six four-star commitments, Nebraska basketball certainly added a ton of depth and talent to the roster.

Nebraska basketball had an NCAA tournament team last year. It is reasonable to expect for them to be back in the tournament again. The Nebraska basketball coaching staff did a solid job of addressing their needs in the transfer portal.
