Nebraska football received a key crystal ball for 2025, plus a top target will decide soon, and more in our recruiting roundup.

The momentum continues to build for Nebraska football on the recruiting trail as another key crystal ball came in for the Huskers on Tuesday night.

Steve Wiltfong is known as the top recruiting analyst for 247 Sports. He will move his crystal ball projections a little, as we saw with Dylan Raiola, but it’s significant when he puts in a crystal ball.

On Tuesday, Nebraska football got a crystal ball projection for the top recruit in the state for the 2025 class. Christian Jones is a four-star linebacker ranked 125th overall via the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Jones is ranked as the 16th-best linebacker in the 2025 class via the 247 Sports composite rankings and he would be another significant in-state commitment for head coach Matt Rhule.

Rhule landed the top in-state recruit in Nebraska in 2023 (Malachi Coleman) as well as landing Carter Nelson (No. 1 in 2024) just a few weeks ago.

The Huskers already have commitments from two of the top three recruits in the state for 2025 as Tyson Terry and Caden VerMaas have pledged to Nebraska football.

Maybe Jones will be next.

5-star RB includes Nebraska football in top 8

The top eight lists drive me crazy. Trim it down farther than that before you announce it. That’s just my opinion but it’s worth mentioning that Nebraska football made the top eight for five-star running back Nathaniel Frazier on Tuesday.

Like I said with Brandon Baker recently, I don’t see the Huskers as a viable contender for Frazier unless he actually visits the program again this fall.

Maybe Nebraska starts hot and rekindles the interest. As it stands right now, Kewan Lacy is the Huskers’ only running back commitment, but he’s trending up in the rankings heading into his senior season.

4-star EDGE sets decision date

Nebraska football fans will learn one way or the other if the Huskers will land Jacob Smith this week as he’s set to announce his commitment on Thursday.

Right now, all of the expert projections are in favor of Michigan. Smith’s twin brother is already committed in the 2024 class to the Wolverines, which is why I’ve never been that optimistic.

You never know what will happen in recruiting. Matt Rhule and the coaches impressed him on the visit and there are only a couple of crystal ball projections. We’ll see if more come in over the next couple of days but my prediction is that Michigan wins out with Jacob Smith.
