Nebraska football have several visitors for Saturday’s game against Northern Illinois. One of those visitors will be 2024 three-star dual threat quarterback Anthony Rezac.
Rezac is the quarterback for Omaha Westside. He is the 18th overall player in the state of Nebraska for the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He has no Crystal Ball predictions at this time. Rezac has gotten offers from the likes of Air Force, Navy, and Army. Nebraska football is getting a chance to get him on campus before his recruitment starts picking up.
This is notable, as Nebraska football will need a quarterback for the future. For one, they are struggling at the position right now. Jeff Sims is really having a hard time at the position. There will be some help coming in next fall. Daniel Kaelin will undoubtedly be a boost to the room, even as a freshman. The quarterback play is not a strong point for Nebraska football right now. Identifying targets for the future is going to be extremely important.
Nebraska Football needs QB depth
Not only will they need talent at the position, they will need depth. Jeff Sims is a junior. Chubba Purdy is a sophomore. Once Purdy and Sims leave, there is not a lot of veteran experience. it is fair to question the skill of Sims and Purdy at this time. At the very least, they offer experience to the room.
So far, Rezac is off to a hot start for Westside. He has 530 yards, and seven touchdowns along with zero interceptions per statistics from MaxPreps.com. He is averaging 176.7 yards per game. Simply put, he is on fire right now. He had a great game against Bellevue West, and was able to showcase his skills at a high level. The quarterback is a gun-slinger in every sense of the word, and he uses his strong arm to make deep, accurate throws in the pocket.
The Huskers need that level of planning right now. The Huskers desperately need a quarterback who is not going to turn the ball over, and can get the ball down the field. Rezac is showing that he can do that.
Rezac’s probably not going to commit right away on Saturday. Nevertheless, there needs to be an emphasis placed on quarterback recruiting. Getting him at least on campus for a visit Saturday is a good start.
