Nebraska football has been red-hot on the recruiting trail as of late. Thursday, the program got another Crystal Ball prediction in their favor. Blair Angulo of 247Sports put in a medium confidence prediction for four-star interior offensive lineman Preston Taumua.
Taumua is the 16th overall interior offensive lineman in the 2024 class, and the top player in his class from the state of Hawaii per the 247Sports composite rankings. He has an extensive offer sheet with 21 offers in total. This includes the likes of Alabama, Arizona, Auburn, and Oregon. Those four teams, along with Nebraska, are trending upwards in his recruitment.
Offensive line coach Donovan Raiola is serving as the primary recruiter for this recruitment. Taumua visited Nebraska on June 19.
What could he bring to Nebraska football?
Taumua is an aggressive lineman, and played a mix of tackle, guard, and defensive tackle for Aiea High School. That aggressiveness really shows, particularly on run blocking. He does a good job in pass protection as well. He sets his feet, and uses his leverage to keep his man out of the backfield.
We have seen Nebraska football really value aggressiveness and physicality in some of the lineman they have recruited. Establishing dominance at the line of scrimmage and in the trenches is something that this Nebraska football coaching staff wanted to make a priority when they got here. Taumua is exactly what Nebraska football needs in that regard. On top of this, he also has size. The lineman measures in at six-foot-four, 315 pounds.
Currently, the 2024 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 15th overall in the country. The class itself has 23 commitments, which is certainly something to monitor. Nebraska football may go slightly over 25 commitments or so. This coaching staff is leaving their stamp on the program, and really making this 2024 class a focal point, and the class that will allow them to build out the program
This Crystal Ball prediction certainly has Nebraska football trending in the right direction. Now, they need to seal the deal and get the job done. This would be a big get for a staff who is heavily focused on improving the offensive line.
