Nebraska football landed a commitment from 2025 four-star Texas defensive lineman Malcolm Simpson. Hayes Fawcett made the announcement on X.
Simpson is the 34th overall defensive lineman in the 2025 class, and the 47th overall player in his class from the state of Texas per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Simpson also had offers from Baylor, Houston, and Kansas to name a few. He was recruited to the Nebraska football program by defensive line coach Terrence Knighton.
Simpson’s measures in at six-foot-four, 266 pounds.
This is a big get for Nebraska football. They needed one more defensive lineman in the 2025 class. Tyson Terry headlines the class, but they needed another lineman to offset the loss of two defensive lineman in Nash Hutmacher and Ty Robinson at the end of next year. They were able to get it, and they were able to have a player that they could continue to develop.
What does this mean for Nebraska football?
Simpson does a good job of getting into the backfield and uses a variety of his strength and finesse in order to disrupt offenses. He is a good pass-rusher in that way, and that should be able to help the defense immediately. He is extremely athletic, and can move quickly as well. This is especially notable and helpful in terms of run pursuit and filling gaps.
The 2025 Nebraska football recruiting class continues to roll. With this commitment, they now rank 31st overall nationally in the 247Sports team rankings. Simpson is now the second-highest commitment of the class, and is the third four-star commitment overall.
Smoke surfaced around Simpson’s name over the course of the weekend. Predictions were put in for him as early as Saturday. It was a busy recruiting weekend, so the predictions were certainly noteworthy.
Nevertheless, it’s always interesting to see when recruits decide to announce their commitments. Simpson wasted no time. It will be interesting to see who is next to commit. Nevertheless, Simpson is a good way to kick things off.
