For the third year in a row, Nebraska football will play a Big Ten game on a Friday night as Fox Sports announced its Friday lineup for the upcoming season.
The Huskers won’t be alone. A bunch of Big Ten teams will be playing games on Friday night throughout the season. Nebraska football traveled to Rutgers for a Friday night game in the 2022 season and the Huskers came away victorious.
Nebraska football also beat Illinois last year in a Friday night game on the road. So maybe it’s not a bad thing after all. The game could also be the 400th consecutive sellout.
Nebraska tried to avoid a Friday night home game due to high school football. But with the Huskers already playing a Friday road game against Iowa, it made it difficult.
Some fans aren’t going to like it. I’ll be honest, I hate it. I’d rather stick with more games on Saturday instead of these made-for-TV time slots, but money rules college football, and this sort of thing is what it is.
Nebraska baseball stays alive in Big Ten tournament
After getting stomped by Ohio State in the first round, losing in seven innings 15-2, Nebraska baseball responded on Wednesday night with their ace on the mound.
Brett Sears wasn’t perfect. But he was effective at limiting damage. Sears allowed two runs on six innings but retired his last 10 batters. Drew Christo was solid in relief, giving Nebraska baseball three scoreless innings as they eliminated Purdue from the Big Ten tournament with a 6-2 win in Omaha.
The offense was sparked by Gabe Swanson’s walk in the bottom of the second which ignited a four-run inning. Swanson went 2-for-4 and later blasted a home run. He also scored twice. Case Sanderson was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while Josh Caron also went yard late, wrapping up a two-hit night. Dylan Carey also had two hits and a double.
Brett Sears improved to 9-0 on the season, making him the first Nebraska baseball pitcher to do that since 1999. Purdue managed just two runs on two hits. Sears struck out nine one day after winning Big Ten Pitcher of the Year.
Nebraska baseball will play the loser of Ohio State and Indiana on Friday at 2 p.m. CST in another elimination game. If Nebraska wins, it would advance to the semifinal round, where it would need to beat its opponent twice to advance to the Big Ten title game.
