Nebraska Football adds local talent via transfer portal

Nebraska football made a transfer portal addition on Monday, adding another quarterback into the fold. They landed former Wyoming Cowboys quarterback Caden Becker. Becker took to Twitter to make the announcement of his transfer.

Although he is a bit under the radar, Becker has talent. He was ranked the 11th overall prospect in the state of Nebraska for the 2022 class. He played high school football for Skutt Catholic, and put up impressive numbers. Becker tallied 1,238 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions.

It appears that Nebraska football is   going to use him in a unique way. He will be asked to play tight end/H-back and will also have the opportunity to play wildcat quarterback, according to a report from Husker 247’s Michael Bruntz.

What can he bring to Nebraska football?

What Nebraska football is getting here is a freak athlete. As Bruntz notes, Becker was recruited to Wyoming as a quarterback. However, he tested really well in conditioning during the spring.  he was moved around a bit positionally, due to his athleticism. He even managed to play some defensive end.

This could be a diamond-in-the-rough type of find for Nebraska football. Becker is probably not going to be an All-American. However, he does give the Huskers another body that they can use in the backfield for offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield.  Becker measures in at six-foot-four, 220 pounds, and seems to have the ideal size for a tight end.

Overall, Nebraska at the very least got themselves a very talented athlete. This gives them more depth in the tight end room, and the flexibility to use him in in different packages. He is definitely going to be more of a project type of player, but he does have a tremendous amount of upside because of his athleticism and ability to play multiple positions.

It will be interesting to see how he gets utilized in the Nebraska football program. At the very least, the coaches are doing their homework on local players in the state.
