Nebraska basketball will get a visit on Friday from Rutgers transfer Gavin Griffiths. This was reported by basketball reporter Derek Murray.

Griffiths was a key piece for Rutgers last season. He played in 32 games, starting in three. He averaged 5.8 points in 17 minutes per game. Griffiths also proved that he could be a three-point marksman, making 31 three-pointers for the Scarlet Knights. He was second on the team in that category.

Griffiths undoubtedly has scoring potential, especially when you look at some the games he had. He scored 24 points against Boston University on November 10, including going three-of-seven from beyond the arc.

Griffiths really began to emerge later in the season, as he scored 16 points in records final game of the season against Maryland, in the first round of the Big Ten tournament. Griffiths tallied 14 points against Wisconsin on March 7, and 10 points against Nebraska on March 3.

There were times last season where Rutgers really struggled. However, Griffiths offered scoring bursts, and playmaking ability.

What could he bring to Nebraska basketball?

Nebraska needs depth at the guard position. Keisei Tominaga is no longer a part of the equation for Nebraska basketball, and that leaves a sizable hole. On the bright side, Brice Williams did come back and that is certainly going to be a boost, especially when you consider how big of a role he had last season. Nevertheless, the program needs additional bodies at the position

He could bring that scoring ability to Nebraska basketball in an expanded role. This would be an opportunity for him to really assert himself as one of the best guards in the Big Ten. Playing time will not be an issue in this program, and Griffiths would have a solid opportunity in Lincoln.

The Huskers have been busy visiting and meeting with players over the past couple days. Griffiths is one of the more intriguing ones. His familiarity with the Big Ten and his ability to be a high-volume scorer certainly make him an intriguing option for Nebraska. Time will tell what direction Nebraska is going to go in, but getting Griffiths for visit is certainly a solid start.
