Nebraska basketball still has the College Basketball Crown left to play, yet the process of building the roster for next season has already started.

The transfer portal officially opens soon. Some players have already entered or announced that they will enter. Some who have already entered are from Iowa after the Hawkeyes fired Fran McCaffery and on that front, one prominent former Hawkeye is on the radar of Nebraska basketball.

That’s Josh Dix, the talented wing who is the top-ranked player in the portal right now according to On3.com. It probably won’t stay that way, but still, Dix is a sure-fire starter and would be a huge addition for a team looking to replace Brice Williams, a First-Team All-Big Ten selection.

Dix is a 6-foot-5 guard from Council Bluffs, Iowa. He averaged 14 points per game last season for Iowa and shot 42.2 percent from 3-point range. He’s a career 41.9 percent shoot from beyond the arc.

According to Joe Tipton of On3.com, Nebraska basketball is one of the contenders. Iowa State, Indiana, and Creighton are some of the other programs involved. Tipton reports that Dix wants to stay close to home, which means either playing in Iowa or close by.

Nebraska basketball and Creighton both make sense. The Bluejays are within 10 miles of his old school. Nebraska is less than 100 miles. Alabama and Illinois are also in the mix. Creighton will be tough to beat, and this might be the first test of the Huskers’ NIL in this transfer class.

That NIL number in terms of money to spend needs to go up. It reportedly will, but will Nebraska basketball have enough money to start landing impact players like Dix? That remains to be seen.

Nebraska basketball is also in contact with UNLV transfer Jaden Henley according to Sam Kayser. Henley averaged over 12 points per game last season for the Rebels. He’s 6-foot-7 and shot 35.1 percent from deep last season in addition to averaging 4.4 rebounds per game.

Henley made 1.2 3-pointers per game on top of averaging 1.6 steals and 1.8 assists.

More Nebraska Cornhuskers news

It was a historic NCAA tournament for the Nebraska wrestling team as the Huskers crowned two national champs, for the first time in 14 years, and took second place for the first time. Nebraska set program records for All-Americans (8), team points scored and highest team finished (2nd overall).

Nebraska also has six All-Americans with eligibility remaining, including national champion Antrell Taylor, a home-grown national champion from the state of Nebraska.

The Nebraska softball team (22-8, 3-2) clinched a series win by knocking off Minnesota 8-3. That was one day after an 8-0 win over the Gophers. Hannah Camenzind went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI. She also got the win after allowing three runs, on eight hits in 4.2 innings. Jordy Bahl closed it out with zero runs and one hit allowed in 2.1 innings.

Nebraska baseball also got a much-needed win after a go-ahead, two-RBI single from freshman Devin Nunez on Saturday as the Huskers scored a 6-5 road win over USC. Nunez had two hits and scored a run. Dylan Carey and Joshua Overbeek each had doubles and two RBI in the win.

Ty Horn got the start but not a decision after giving up two runs on four hits in five innings. Luke Broderick improved to 1-0 after 2.1 shutout innings to help the Huskers improve to 10-12 overall and 2-6 in the Big Ten.
