Nebraska basketball blew a chance at a quad-1 opportunity on Monday night, losing 49-46 to Michigan. Brice Williams was spectacular, scoring 20 of the Huskers’ first 24 points.

However, Michigan started doubling Williams and nobody could make him pay. Juwan Gary made just 2-of-13 attempts. Outside of Williams, Nebraska shot just 12 percent from the field. Williams made more field goals than every other player on the roster combined.

The defense was exceptional, but Nebraska basketball still missed out on a quad-1 win because it couldn’t score 50 points. That’s hard to believe with Fred Hoiberg as the head coach.

Still, the bigger question is where does that leave Nebraska in regards to the NCAA tournament? According to the latest bracketology update, just released this morning, the Huskers are now among the last four teams out according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.

Nebraska is also dropping according to other bracket projections. Bracket Matrix tracks all of them and of the 105 brackets tracked right now, the Huskers are projected to make the field in 103. They have dropped below a 10-seed though so the margin for error is razor-thin.

But, if the Huskers win their last two games (Iowa and Minnesota) and win at least one game in the Big Ten tournament, they should be fine.

Nebraska women’s basketball also on the bubble

The women’s basketball team is also on the bubble. The Huskers are among the last four teams to receive a first-round bye according to the ESPN women’s bracketology.

Nebraska lost its home finale on Sunday against Washington. The Huskers will play at Northwestern on Sunday in what amounts to a must-win game.

There is also the Big Ten tournament. Nebraska should be in the field but another win or two certainly wouldn’t hurt.
