It seems like there is a void of leadership at the University of Nebraska. The good news is that the Nebraska football program doesn’t suffer from that, thanks to Matt Rhule.
Following the confirmation, from Trev Alberts email to his staff letting them know of his departure, Rhule, who was out of the country, on vacation with his family, tweeted out the perfect response.
Matt Rhule with the perfect response to Trev Alberts exit
Rhule tweeted a video of Nebraska football highlights, both past and present (from the 2023 season) with Paul Harvey speaking the words of “God Made a Farmer” in the background.
You can take a lot of messages away from that. To me, it’s a message that even though the road ahead is going to be difficult, Nebraska football is built on a team of “farmers.” So they are ready for whatever lies ahead.
Guys willing to do whatever it takes to win — for each other. That’s what made Nebraska football great in the glory years and the culture Rhule is building, or has built, reminds me of that.
Although Trev Alberts and Ted Carter brought Rhule to Nebraska, he’s the right head coach for the right time. I know there are going to be concerns about Rhule and his future. But those are for another day, possibly years down the road.
For now, the focus is on the 2024 season. Rhule posted 8/31/2024 along with his video. That’s the day of the season-opening game against UTEP. That’s where his focus is and that’s where the focus of all Nebraska football players and fans should be.
Trev Alberts turned his back on Nebraska. Matt Rhule won’t (strong opinion). He’s a farmer (at heart) and with a team of them this season, which I believe he’s got, the Huskers are going to do special things.
