Sunday is an important day for Nebraska basketball for the men’s and women’s teams. Fred Hoiberg’s team has a must-win road game against one of the best teams in the Big Ten, Wisconsin.

The women, led by head coach Amy Williams, will host 12th-ranked Ohio State in a critical matchup in the Big Ten standings. Nebraska basketball is projected to make the women’s NCAA tournament right now.

Nebraska is tied for fifth in the Big Ten at 6-2. Led by recent Big Ten Freshman of the Week, Britt Price, and three-time All-Big Ten selection Alexis Markoswki, the Huskers have won five games in a row. The 12th-ranked Buckeyes are loaded though.

Jaloni Cambridge is another talented freshman and averages 15 points per game for the Buckeyes. Cotie McMahon and Chance Gray also average more than 15 points per game for Ohio State.

USC and UCLA are tied for first in conference at 8-0. Ohio State is third at 7-1, followed by Michigan State (7-2), Maryland (6-2) and Nebraska (6-2). Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. CST on Big Ten Plus.

Nebraska basketball is still on the bubble

The Nebraska men’s basketball team has lost five games in a row, the opposite of the women’s team, and its season is on life support. However, there is still time to save it, and it starts Sunday at Wisconsin (noon CST, BTN).

Wisconsin is a 7.5-point favorite. The Badgers are ranked 20th in the Kenpom rankings. Nebraska basketball has dropped to 48th. According to the latest bracketology projections from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, the Huskers are also the first team out.

Led by John Tonje and John Blackwell, the Badgers boast one of the best offenses in the Big Ten. They are the No. 28 adjusted offense in college hoops but also have the 18th adjusted defense according to Kenpom.

Wisconsin makes 10.1 3-pointers per game during Big Ten games, leading the league. Nebraska is 13th in 3-point field goals allowed among Big Ten teams and 15th in 3-point percentage defense.

The Badgers are a big, physical team. That doesn’t bode well considering Nebraska baskeball just allowed 12 offensive rebounds to USC, one of the worst offensive rebounding teams in the country.

If Nebraska could find a way, it would be a quadrant-1 victory. And maybe, it could turn the season around. There is still hope, but the Huskers have to find the team that won the Diamond Head Classic, as well as the one that beat Indiana and UCLA at home.

Time is running out.
