It didn’t take long for Nebraska football quarterback Dylan Raiola to win over the national media following his first start for the Huskers last Saturday.
Raiola threw for 228 yards and two touchdowns. He didn’t have an interception but did make some “wow” throws and caught the attention of pundits across college football.
After not even cracking the top 10 of one set of preseason Big Ten quarterback power rankings, Raiola was in the top 10 of the 247 Sports QB power rankings after his Week 1 showing.
Maybe that’s an overreaction. Or maybe it isn’t.
Joet Klatt believes Nebraska football will be a playoff contender
Joel Klatt, who called the Nebraska football game against Colorado last season, certainly doesn’t see it as an overreaction. He was talking up the Huskers as a potential playoff team during the offseason and after Raiola’s first start, Klatt believes Nebraska will be in College Football Playoff contention come November.
“There’s no doubt with the schedule ahead of them that they’ll be playing meaningful games as it relates to the College Football Playoff in November,” Klatt said. “It was a bit of a wait and see for me after that first game, and he showed some flashes. So yeah, I think he’s really good. But again, let’s just peel it back and actually say what it is. If he’s just a net positive, then Nebraska is playing meaningful games in November when it relates to the College Football Playoff.”
Of course, Nebraska needs to beat Colorado this week, or all the playoff buzz ends. Hell, I just want this team to win six games but it’s still nice to see the national talking heads drinking the Kool-Aid.
