Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule is great at finding advantages for the Huskers. He’s utilized the walk-on program to the full extent and taken advantage of the fact that there are no true roster limits (for now).
The Huskers have added players, even this summer, that they might not be able to add in the future if there are roster limits.
But Sunday proved to be a good day for Nebraska football, not just because of the commitment of four-star cornerback Bryson Webber. The Huskers also added Jamar Mozee, a former high school head coach at Lee’s Summit North, a big-time hire for Rhule.
Here are some thoughts.
Thoughts on the latest Nebraska football assistant coach Jamar Mozee
Mozee has ties to Kansas City and the state of Missouri. He’s also the father of 2025 four-star wideout Isaiah Mozee. At 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Mozee is ranked No. 246 overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2025 class. He also took an official visit to Nebraska football recently.
Mozee, a four-star wideout, is committed to Oregon. But he visited Kansas and Nebraska in June, plus Oregon has three other receivers committed in 2025 besides Mozee, which could be why he’s looking around.
Just because his father is on the coaching staff as an analyst for Nebraska football doesn’t mean he will flip, but there was a chance of it happening before. Those odds have to be improved now.
Beyond the 2025 class, Mozee can be an asset for the Huskers in multiple ways. He was on the UCF staff this spring as a defensive analyst and as a former head coach, he can help on the field in a number of ways.
With an experienced coach leaving the defensive side of the ball, Mozee could lend a hand there, like he was planning to at UCF. Beyond that, Nebraska football can have 10 extra coaches on the road recruiting in addition to the position coaches and Mozee is a no-brainer.
Nebraska has wanted to build a pipeline in the Kansas City and St. Louis areas and this can only help. Jamarion Parker was a big get out of Missouri in 2025 and this hire should help the Huskers on the field and the recruiting trail.
