If all goes according to plan on Thursday, Nebraska football will land its most important recruiting commitment since Dylan Raiola.
That’s because the Huskers are trending as the favorite to come away with the commitment from Trae Taylor, a four-star quarterback ranked 35th overall in the 2027 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Taylor is expected to announce a decision live on the 247 Sports YouTube Channel at 3:30 PM CST. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound quarterback will choose between Nebraska football, Texas A&M, LSU, Illinois, and Michigan.
Taylor visited the Nebraska football team last weekend during their spring scrimmage. The Huskers have been trending with expert projections since then, including one on Wednesday from Steve Wiltfong, the top recruiting expert in all of college football.
Illinois did pay Taylor a visit on Wednesday. He’s from Illinois, so a final visit from the in-state program could mean something, but the On3 recruiting prediction machine gives the Huskers an 88-percent chance to win his commitment.Â
Final thoughts as CharMar Brown chooses Miami
There was a time on Wednesday when it felt like Nebraska football might be able to land CharMar Brown this week, too.
Cal dropped out of the running, so it was down to Miami and Nebraska. Unfortunately, for Nebraska fans, Brown, the kid from Omaha, decided to take his talents to South Beach.
Brown will play for Miami. Nebraska will go into the 2025 season with Kwinten Ives as RB2. That’s worrisome, simply due to the lack of experience, but the Huskers took Ives as a recruit over Brown, so we’ll see if they were correct in their evaluation.
Running back depth will be one of the big question marks going into the 2025 season. Emmett Johnson is a talented back. I have no doubt he’ll have 1,000 total yards, but I am concerned about his ability to hold up throughout the regular season.
Hopefully, Ives and Mekhi Nelson are up to the challenge.
