Former Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost might be back in the head coaching ranks quicker than expected.
Frost had a horrendous tenure with Nebraska that ended during his fifth season after a loss to Georgia Southern. He never won more than five games and didn’t get Nebraska to a bowl game.
Frost was the starting quarterback for Nebraska football during the 1997 season and helped lead the Huskers to share the national championship.
Frost started for two years at Nebraska. Then, after a 19-7 record as the head coach of UCF including a 13-0 record in 2017, Frost was hired as the Huskers head coach.
Former Nebraska football head emerging as a candidate for FAU
Everyone thought it would work out perfectly. It didn’t. Frost’s name is mud in the state of Nebraska, although that’s not always going to be the case. People will remember his play for the Huskers. He was also a high school legend who chose Bill Walsh over Nebraska and Tom Osborne.
After being out of football in 2022 and 2023, Frost joined the Rams as an analyst. Yet, he could be coming back to college football soon as according to Pete Nakos of On3.com, he’s on the FAU head coach hotboard after Florida Atlantic fired Tom Herman earlier this week.
It might seem crazy to replace one Power-4 washout with another, but Frost has had success in Florida and could probably do a decent job recruiting. He’s actually a good offensive mind too, despite all his failures as a head coach for Nebraska football.
One would think if he ever got an opportunity, he would give it everything he had — something it felt like he didn’t always do at Nebraska. It will be interesting to see if he gets a second chance at being a head coach.
I have expected him to. Just not this early.
