There’s never a dull moment when it comes to Nebraska football. Monday was a reminder of that as former NAIA standout quarterback Jalyn Gramstad caused a stir by working out at a camp in Lincoln.

Gramstad is from Iowa originally and has played the last four seasons for Northwestern in Iowa. The team reached the national championship game last season and Gramstad led the country in passing yards and touchdowns at the NAIA level (3,681 yards and 35 touchdowns). He also completed better than 67 percent of his passes and was NAIA Player of the Year.

The 6-foot, 190-pound quarterback worked out in the camp hosted by Nebraska football, according to a report from Sean Callahan of Husker Online, which is interesting because the Huskers only have three quarterbacks.

Could Nebraska football add a fourth quarterback?

Callahan called Gramstad an “elite” thrower which makes you wonder if the Huskers could consider adding him to the roster. Callahan reported that a coach in attendance said that Gramstad is better than anything the Huskers had last season, which would be Heinrich Haarberg who is in the mix to start.

We all know Dylan Raiola is going to be the starting quarterback and frankly, I’m not sure upsetting the chemistry of the quarterback room is worth adding Gramstad. He might be an upgrade for the backup quarterback position but it sounds like he could be in the mix to start if Nebraska offered him.

Yet, there isn’t much room and I have a hard time seeing the Huskers spend another scholarship on a quarterback. If Gramstad wanted to walk on, then it’s a possibility, but it sounds like he might be good enough to do better than that, so this will be interesting to watch.

Another quality quarterback can’t hurt. I just worry if it would hinder the development of Raiola and if that’s possible, I think the Huskers should pass.
