This weekend is an important one for both Nebraska basketball teams. The men’s team is hosting Minnesota on Saturday in what can only be described as a must-win game.

The Nebraska women’s basketball team plays at Northwestern Sunday in a similar situation. Both teams are on the bubble, and it’s too close for comfort. It’s also too close to lose a game you aren’t supposed to lose, and with both teams favored, it’s crunch time.

As far as the Nebraska men’s basketball team is concerned, the Huskers are listed as getting one of the last first-round byes. Essentially, they are the fifth-to-last team in the NCAA tournament, according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.

I’ve maintained that Nebraska needs 20 wins. So, two more in Big Ten play and another in the Big Ten tournament to guarantee a berth. Nebraska basketball is also projected in the field in 103 of the 106 brackets tracked by Bracket Matrix after the latest updates.

Nebraska women’s basketball is among the last four first-round byes, according to ESPN. Two more wins wouldn’t hurt, but the Huskers have to beat Northwestern on Sunday. The Wildcats are 2-15 in the Big Ten, so a loss could burst the bubble of Nebraska.

Nebraka baseball gets a win in Texas

On the first day of the Frisco College Baseball Classic, Nebraska baseball got two home runs from Cael Frost, who also drove in three runs in an 8-3 win over Sam Houston State.

Nebraska totaled 12 hits in the win and belted three home runs. Cayden Brumbaugh also went yard in the win for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Mason McConnaughey left the game early due to an injury, allowing two runs on 3.2 innings pitched. However, Jalen Worthley was strong in relief, while Will Walsh got the win after pitching four perfect innings with six strikeouts in relief.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will take on second-ranked LSU on Saturday. First pitch is set for 4 PM CST.

Nebraska Cornhuskers softball splits

Nebraska softball needed extra innings but found a way against South Dakota State on Friday with an 8-5 win coming in extra innings. Emmerson Cope, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, blasted a home run in the seventh to force extra innings.

From there, Nebraska softball was able to drive in three runs, one of which was brought home on an RBI double by Jordy Bahl, who also scored in the inning. Bahl pitched two scoreless innings to get the win on the mound, her sixth of the season.

The Cornhuskers then dropped a 1-0 pitcher’s duel against Oklahoma State. Bahl tossed seven innings and allowed just one run on two hits while striking out eight. She also walked five but surrendered a home run to Oklahoma State. Bahl had one of two hits for Nebraska softball.

Nebraska will play Missouri on Saturday at 3 PM CST, followed by a matchup against Wichita State at 5:30 PM CST.
