It’s been a special season for Nebraska women’s basketball and it continued on Friday at the Target Center in Minneapolis with a 73-61 win over fourth-seeded Michigan State to reach the Big Ten semifinals for the second time in three seasons.
Coming into the Big Ten tournament, Nebraska women’s basketball was projected as a No. 8 seed. But after the win over Michigan State, a top-25 team in the NET rankings, the Huskers’ seeding could improve. They are also two wins from the Big Ten title.
Maryland knocked off top-seeded Ohio State on Friday, so Nebraska women’s basketball will play eighth-seeded Maryland on Saturday for a shot at the Big Ten title game (1 CST, BTN).
Alexis Markowski showed why she was selected First-Team All-Big Ten this season with 22 points and 12 boards, an effort that included some key buckets down the stretch. Jaz Shelley connected three times from beyond the arc to finish with 17 points. Logan Nissley was also stellar with 11 points on three 3-pointers. Natalie Potts, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year was also spectacular with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
A Big Ten title within reach for Nebraska women’s basketball
Nebraska women’s baskeball is 21-10 on the season. Their NCAA tournament spot is solidified but their seeding could be improved with another win, but especially if they find a way to win the Big Ten women’s championship.
The Huskers are halfway home and if they can beat the Terps, they would likely get another shot at Caitlin Clark, only this time for the Big Ten championship.
