An EDGE Nebraska Football should target in transfer portal

Nebraska football could use more pass rushers and Jatius Geer from Syracuse makes too much sense for the Huskers not to pursue.

Nebraska football had some freshmen flash some pass rush skills during the spring game, but as things stand right now, I firmly believe the Huskers need to bolster the pass rush.

Some of those performances from the spring game and spring ball will translate. I’m not discounting what those guys did and Kai Wallin, a JUCO, also had a nice debut that has gone somewhat overlooked.

That being said, Nebraska football could really use more juice on the edge and it just so happens that former Syracuse starter Jatius Geer entered the transfer portal on Thursday.

This is interesting because the current Nebraska football defensive coordinator, Tony White, just came from Syracuse and Geer started 12 of 13 games last season for the Orange.

Jatius Geer is perfect transfer poral target

Out of South Carolina, Geer is 6-foot-6. He came to college weighing about 260 pounds but has dropped weight and is more of a true EDGE around 230 pounds. That’s the role he played for the Orange last season and he was productive notching 33 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and six quarterback hurries.

The other thing you have to like about Geer from a Nebraska football perspective is that he just completed his redshirt freshman season. Geer is a 12-game starter with multiple sacks that has three years of eligibility left and already has experience in the Huskers’ defensive system.

Scholarship limit concerns or not, this seems like a no-brainer. I don’t know if Geer went to the portal with a destination in mind. Some players do, but I would be disappointed if Nebraska didn’t at least make contact.

I’ve said all offseason that Nebraska could use more help up front on both sides of the ball from the spring transfer portal, as well as an EDGE. The Huskers were fortunate that Geer’s name popped up in the portal and with their ties to him, I really want to see the Huskers pursue it.

It just makes too much sense.
