A D-line transfer to visit, plus more portal buzz for Nebraska football

Nebraska football will host a defensive tackle from the transfer portal, plus more buzz about the Huskers.

Nebraska football has plenty of work to do in the transfer portal, and so far, the Huskers have been busy.

They haven’t added any transfer portal commitments yet, but Nebraska has multiple players visiting this weekend. Another who will visit, according to Pete Nakos of On3.com, is former UCF defensive tackle Horace Lockett.

Lockett only played in four games last season for the Knights, under former Nebraska head coach Scott Frost, but the 6-foot-6, 355-pounder had three tackles for loss and a sack. He’s a nose-tackle type and would be a good fit for the middle of the defense in the 4-2-5, which Nebraska is expected to run under Rob Aurich.

The only problem is that there is no shortage of suitors. Nebraska will contend with Ohio State, Notre Dame, South Carolina, and Ole Miss for his services. He played in four games this season before he was injured. He had 13 tackles and eight solos. He also played at Georgia Tech before that.

The Huskers will likely have to shell out some NIL money to land him, but in what could be slim pickings up front, a true nose tackle is needed, and Lockett would be a good fit.

Positive buzz about portal visitor

Two key visitors this weekend are Brendan Black, the Iowa State offensive lineman, and former San Diego State linebacker Owen Chambliss.

Black is also expected to visit South Carolina. He’s a 30-game starter from Iowa State at right guard. That would be a massive addition. There isn’t any intel, though, as far as how close Nebraska could be to landing his pledge for next season.

As far as Chambliss, Greg Biggins of On3 reported on Husker Online that Chambliss could be “one and done” in terms of visits. That means he could be a Cornhusker by the end of the weekend if all goes well.
